This program was started in 1994
by Randy Kendrick, then WCGS President, as an incentive to try and
improve participation in the 16U & 18U age groups. The Basic
criteria is that you must play a minimum of five years at WCGS
(Spring season), you must play four out of your last five years of
eligibility and you must play or coach in at least 75% of your games
during your senior year of high school. |
|
|
|
Potential applicants are
identified from the Spring 19U registrations each season and receive
an information letter and application form by mail or e-mail or
coach. Application forms must be completed and submitted and
include two or more letters of recommendation from coaches,
teachers, church staff, etc. A three member WCGS Scholarship
Committee, including the Treasurer, reviews the applications and
verifies eligibility. They then determine the amount of the awards
based on available funding and the number of applicants each year. |

|
Funding for this program comes
mainly from concession profits, with a large portion being realized
from the Coke Classic tournament (at Lost Mountain Park only). The
scholarship awards are presented at a ceremony, which is normally
held the second or third week of June. |

|
|
Since 1994,
we have awarded 170 scholarships for a total in excess of $94,000. |
