Spring/Fall Registration Process and Related Forms

With almost 1,100 girls between the ages of 4 and 19 participating the West Cobb Girls Softball organization is the largest in the metro Atlanta area.  We have 8 beautifully designed and maintained softball fields, two hub facilities containing our concession stands and scoring booths along with 2 batting cages on both the top and lower fields.  Each year more and more girls benefit from the wonderful team experience of competitive slow and fast pitch softball, making new friends and improving their skills.

Do you want to be a Team Manager or an Assistant Coach?

If you are interested in applying for a Team Manager or Assistant coach position with any age group please print off, complete and bring the attached form when you register.  In the Spring of '05 we enjoyed a total of 90+ teams between the slow and fast pitch programs and West Cobb Girls Softball continues to grow each year.   Whether you have coached with WCGS before, you've coached at another softball/baseball park or if this will be your first experience coaching we encourage you to apply.  All applicants must be approved by the WCGS Board of Directors, agree to a background check and attend any mandatory coaches training or certification meetings.  Due to the volume of submissions not all applicants are guaranteed a position.

Team Concession Stand Staffing Process (UPDATED AS OF SPRING 2008)
Concession operations are the primary means of raising funds for our Association. Those funds help pay for umpires and score keepers and enable us to procure equipment necessary for games and the operation of our park. Your cooperation in ensuring that each parent works the Full shift for which it is responsible will help us keep costs down and registration fees low.

1. During registration a separate $50 refundable per player concession deposit will be required. If two players then $100, three then $150, etc.
2. The fee applies to all Slow Pitch and Fast Pitch Rec and Travel team players.

Team Concession Stand Requirement
1. A parent or legal guardian representing every player on the team is required to staff the concession stand during one (1) entire assigned team shift (usually a total of about 4 hours).
2. In addition, for safety and liability concerns at no time will children under the age of 18 be allowed inside the concession stand.
3. Parents are required to help with set-up and shut down of the concession stand.
4. All parent workers must sign in and out of a staffing log at the start and end of their assigned shift at the upper concession stand (located at fields 1-5).
5. A WCGS board member will assist with each shifts’ concession operations.

6. No make-up dates will be available.

Concession Deposit Refund Policy **NEW**
Individual parent deposit checks will be returned as follows:

1. Concession checks will be NOT be returned, but instead destroyed by the WCGS Board Treasurer for all parents fulfilling the entire shift assigned.

2. If any parent does not serve the entire team shift they will forfeit their refund and WCGS will cash those checks and deposit the money into the WCGS General Fund.

a. The WCGS Treasurer will notify by email or phone, at the conclusion of the season ending tournament, any parent whose concession check was deposited in the WCGS bank account for failure to fulfill their assigned concession shift.

b. If any parent would rather receive their actual deposit check via mail (instead if it being destroyed) then an email must be sent to the WCGS Board Treasurer (email found by selecting name at the “Board of Directors” link at the WCGS home page) for request/validation.

c. Any parent who paid cash for their concession deposit at the time of registration and is due a refund will receive a WCGS check in the mail no later than the end of May of the current Spring season.

3. The WCGS Concession Board Member on duty may, at his/her discretion, ask some of the team parents to staff the other WCGS concession stand when operational.

Team Concession Staffing Date
Team staffing assignments will not be available until the regular season schedule is available. You will be able to obtain this information through your team manager and through the WCGS website at www.wcgsoftball.com (at the Team Concession Duty link).

Concession Shift Food/Drink Policy

All Parents working during a concession shift can obtain one complimentary of the following: a Powerade/Gatorade or small fountain drink (coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, etc) or bottled water for personal use only.  All other food/drink items during an assigned shift must be paid directly to the WCGS Board representative.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Do You Want to be a Score Keeper for Spring?

WCGS will be using score keepers for the 2007 Spring season.   Score keepers must be at least 14 years old.  Experience is not necessary, however, a knowledge of the game is very helpful.  A mandatory clinic will be conducted a few weeks before the season (late February) in which new score keepers will be trained.  Returning score keepers do not have to attend the clinic - but you must let us know you will be returning for the 2007 season.  Score keepers are paid $7 a game, in cash, on the day they work- $7 for one game, $15 for two, $22 for three, $30 for four, and $37 for five.  Scheduling is done a week in advance and is very flexible to accommodate player's game schedules, school commitments and extra activities.

If you are interested in keeping score in the 2007 Spring Season or you have any questions, send an e-mail to the goldbergjm@comcast.net which must include your first/last name, complete address-including zip code, 10 digit phone number, a valid e-mail address and indicate whether you are a "New" or "Returning" score keeper.  We'll get in touch with you as the season nears.

*Paid score keepers are not used during the Fall seasons.*

Confidentiality Form

WCGS - Community Service Program

In order to provide members of West Cobb Girls Softball the opportunity to contribute to the community by volunteering time and effort to assist the younger participants of WCGS.  The individual would be assisting the Manager of the team in conveying the general principles of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, the Skills of Softball and providing an enjoyable learning experience for our participants.  Participation in this program would allow the individual to earn community service hours as required by many high school and college programs today.

Due to the varying number of teams, a set number of girls can not be determined until the registration is finalized and the number of teams are confirmed for the age groups (Sugar & Spice and 8 & Under) that are participating.  We encourage all girls interested to submit an application.

In order to be considered for the WCGS Community Service Program the following criteria must be submitted during registration.

The applicant must:

     1.     a.   if Spring - participated in the past 2 consecutive Spring seasons and be
                   currently enrolled
             b.   if Fall - participated in the past 3 consecutive Spring seasons
     2.     Must participate in at least 75% of all team practices/games
     3.     Write a single paragraph on why they should be considered for the program
     4.     Give the name of a previous Manager that would confirm the applicant's abilities to
provide the principles of Sportsmanship, Teamwork and the Skills of Softball
     5.     Must have a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average
     6.     Must be a minimum of a sophomore in High School

The approval committee will take all of the information above and consider to the best of its ability which applicants will be awarded the opportunity to participate in the program.

Upon completion of the season the manager will submit the attendance card of the volunteer for approval and issuance of a certificate of merit for community service signed by the president of WCGS and a Cobb County Parks representative stating the hours served to our community at WCGS.
