Community Service Program

With almost 1,050 girls between the ages of 4 and 19 participating the West Cobb Girls Softball organization is the largest in the metro Atlanta area.  We have 8 beautifully designed and maintained softball fields, two hub facilities containing our concession stands and scoring booths along with 2 batting cages on both the top and lower fields.  Each year more and more girls benefit from the wonderful team experience of competitive slow and fast pitch softball, making new friends and improving their skills.

WCGS - Community Service Program

In order to provide members of West Cobb Girls Softball the opportunity to contribute to the community by volunteering time and effort to assist the younger participants of WCGS.  The individual would be assisting the Manager of the team in conveying the general principles of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, the Skills of Softball and providing an enjoyable learning experience for our participants.  Participation in this program would allow the individual to earn community service hours as required by many high school and college programs today.

Due to the varying number of teams, a set number of girls can not be determined until the registration is finalized and the number of teams are confirmed for the age groups (Sugar & Spice and 8 & Under, and 10 & Under fastpitch only) that are participating.  We encourage all girls interested to submit an application.

In order to be considered for the WCGS Community Service Program the following criteria must be submitted during registration.

The applicant must:

     1.     a.   if Spring - participated in 2 of the past 3 seasons and be currently enrolled
             b.   if Fall - participated in the past 3 consecutive Spring seasons
     2.     Must participate in at least 75% of all team practices/games. Travel team participants must participate in 75% of practices (because of weekend tournament schedules).
     3.     Write a single paragraph on why they should be considered for the program
     4.     Give the name of a previous Manager that would confirm the applicant's abilities to provide the principles of Sportsmanship, Teamwork and the Skills of Softball
     5.     Must have a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average
     6.     Must be a minimum of a sophomore in High School

The approval committee will take all of the information above and consider to the best of its ability which applicants will be awarded the opportunity to participate in the program.

Upon completion of the season the manager will submit the attendance card of the volunteer for approval and issuance of a certificate of merit for community service signed by the president of WCGS and a Cobb County Parks representative stating the hours served to our community at WCGS.
